Where to find inspiration?

When you put coloring books or puzzles aside for later, when you sit down with a book but the ideas aren't coming…

Where to find inspiration?

It might seem that inspiration is a spark that strikes us like lightning, compelling us to start creating. The truth, however, is a bit more prosaic. Inspiration is not always a matter of chance. Very often, inspiration is simply the skill of looking closely at the world. It's a process in which you consciously make space for new ideas.

Our tried-and-true avenues for seeking inspiration:

Observing reality

The best ideas are hidden in the details of everyday life, in its humor, and in its daily motion. It's worth paying attention to your surroundings. Look at how beautiful the colors are outside: the trees, the sky, the buildings. Look at your pet. Just watching a kitten with its clumsy grace and wide eyes as it investigates a new object is enough to spark a fully-formed idea for an incredibly warm and charming illustration.

Changing perspective

Looking at things from a different perspective is always a good idea. When you hit a dead end, think outside the box and try to anticipate your next move. Creating engaging coloring books or puzzles requires exactly this kind of balance: strict logic and structure on one hand, and a free, unconventional imagination on the other.

Image deconstruction

Instead of passively looking at pictures and only seeing the whole, try to consciously analyze them. Why did you pause at this specific spot? What caught your eye? Gathering this kind of information will help you build your own unique style.

Creative boredom

Many people hesitate to do this. Doing what? Just sitting down, without a phone, with a cup of coffee, and doing nothing? Paradoxically, taking this exact step back is sometimes the best source of inspiration. A walk without your phone, or a quiet moment in an armchair with a cup of tea, allows your thoughts to wander freely and merge into new, surprising concepts.

Ultimately, inspiration is simply the habit of being curious. You don't have to wait for it to come to you; you can just step out and meet it halfway.
